Listen Up To The Coal Porters' No. 6!
Sid Griffin and his band The Coal Porters are excited to announce their latest album No. 6, a collection due September 16 (Prima Records). The eclectic record was helmed by legendary producer John Wood (Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Squeeze) at Strongroom Studios in London, England, a slice of Americana with a cup of British tea that continues to solidify them as a powerful studio and touring ensemble. The outfit has traveled the world over, performing at hallowed concert halls, tiny clubs and festivals to deliver their brand of bluegrass which has been called “alt-grass” and “alt-bluegrass.”

No. 6’s tunes are based on true-life experiences with a dose of smart wit. In “Salad Days,” Sid writes about being young, unstoppable and not listening to anyone (“Didn’t want to hear ‘I told you so.'”). Maybe that was something that rubbed off from that Ramones show? Both Sid and Neil Robert Herd bounce back and forth with writing songs and vocals throughout the album, which allows their continued evolution. Tunes like “Save Me From The Storm” and “The Blind Bartender” display faith and philosophy by an old man of the sea and a blind bartender who “sees all” with his heart.

Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll
Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll,
due October 28 on Austin-based Eight 30 Records and produced by label owners Jenni Finlay and Brian T. Atkinson, celebrates a true songwriter's songwriter, a Texas tunesmith who has inspired both younger and older artists for nearly two decades. Carroll simply captures entire lifetimes among stilled snapshots like few others (James McMurtry's “Screen Door,” Hayes Carll's “Girl with the Dirty Hair”).

“I try to find moments that are sublime,” Carroll explains. “They just last a little bit and then you're back to your regular life and strife, but there are just these perfect little moments.” Evidence on the new tribute album: “Black Flag Blues” (Tim Easton and Aaron Lee Tasjan), “Red Bandana Blues” (Terri Hendrix), “South of Town” (Slaid Cleaves), "Oklahoma Gypsy Shuffler" (The Band of Heathens), "Hi-Fi Love" (Jamie Lin Wilson), "Lil' Runaway" (Verlon Thompson) and many, many more.

“It's a diverse group united by a shared appreciation of a writer who may be only 42, but is talented beyond his years.” -
Rolling Stone

Listen up: Robert Kraft Trio's forthcoming 'I Gotta Have You'
The Robert Kraft Trio's forthcoming vinyl single swaggers (“I Gotta Have You”) and sways (b/w “I Want to Show You”) with effortless, soulful elegance. The exceptional record previews the Austin-based singer's highly anticipated full-length album (release date TBA). Results already have made their mark. “It's like he hired The Wrecking Crew for these sessions,” legendary singer-songwriter James McMurtry says enthusiastically. Kraft on the power of a front man:

"Whatever the front man says or does gives license to those in the crowd. A certain band used to play at the Continental Club in Austin, where my band and I regularly play when we’re home. When they played, a woman danced naked, or very nearly naked, behind a screen on which a light threw her shadow to the full view of the audience. Some of the staff that worked those shows are still working at the club. They tell me that during those shows some of the men in the audience became unusually and uncomfortably aggressive toward the women in the audience. I thought that was terrible."
Check out the new website HERE!

“Robert Kraft makes smart music that's also irresistably danceable. Everything he touches becomes an instant classic.” - Brennen Leigh
